Modes of Transport
The preferred modes of travel in Europe are flights, trains, buses and rental cars. Many volunteer groups like Studiefahrten, PM to AM offer discounted student trips around Europe. This offers a good opportunity to visit landmarks in Europe and meet new people.
Many airlines operate low cost flights to and fro from several European countries. The most widely used budget airlines are Ryanair, Lufthansa, Eurowings, Air Europa and Smartwings. Ticket prices are usually extremely affordable when booked at the right time. Students should ensure that they follow the given registration process so as to not incur any additional charges later on.
Europe has very well connected and dense network of railways. Trains are usually the preferred mode of travel within Germany. Students can avail of certain discounts on train tickets. Detailed information can be found on the Deutsche Bahn website.
Bus travel within Germany is one of the cheapest modes of transport. Flixbus is widely popular amongst students, with ticket prices as cheap as 5 Euros. Car-pooling companies like Bla-Bla car also offer a cheap mode of transport.

Many of the major cities in Europe offer cheap accommodation in the form of youth/student hostels, Airbnb’s and Couch-surfing. Students (albeit below a certain age level) can avail of discounts at youth hostels in Germany and other European countries.
Trips planned well in advance can cost students as less as 20-25 Euros per night for accommodation.
